Salt Lake City — The Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is moving quickly to outline their limits after voters rejected the bond to expand the jail.
In November, voters rejected a $507 million jail bond on the Salt Lake County ballot. The bond would have funded the creation of 812 new beds at the Salt Lake County Metro Jail, along with the closure of the aging Oxbow Jail.
The final votes were certified Tuesday Nov. 19.
The resolution passed. This means the jails are just 186 inmates away from full capacity.
The resolution also notes that capacity could be reduced if staffing shortages arise or if jail units close for repairs.
