WEST JORDAN, Utah – 11 people were taken to hospitals after there was a carbon monoxide leak at a business Saturday, causing an evacuation of the building.
Firefighters initially received a call at approximately 2:49 p.m. about an “unconscious female” at Otto and Sons, according to Battalion Chief Chris Trevino
Trevino reported that responders arrived approximately five minutes after the call, found the woman, and said she was conscious enough to communicate with them. Firefighters said they then removed her from the building.
Upon arrival, firefighters reported that several other people were complaining of symptoms such as dizziness and headaches.
“With that being said, other additional units were called to help evaluate and ended up transporting 11 people to local area hospitals with symptoms such as lightheadedness. They had high levels of CO in their blood, and also they were complaining of feeling sick,” Trevino told KSL TV.
Firefighters detected high levels of carbon monoxide, and evacuated the building, Trevino told KSL TV. He said that first responders conducted two rounds of searches to ensure nobody was left inside the building, and were working with management to ensure all employees were accounted for.
