Man charged after attempt to steal from ATM technician

SALT LAKE CITY — A Texas man has been charged with one count of bank robbery after he allegedly tried to steal from an ATM technician armed.
The man, Jawuan Donte Thomas (22) was first taken into custody on Dec, 17, 2024. According to a press release, Thomas had attempted to rob an ATM technician outside a Wells Fargo bank in Draper, Utah.
Police were notified that same day of an intentionally jammed ATM in Riverton, Utah.
According to the press release surveillance video revealed a license plate connected to a Jeep. However the suspects car was not the car connected to the plate.
Detective found the vehicle at eh Wells Fargo in Draper and watched the occupants watch the ATM technician make repairs on the machine. When the safe to the ATM was opened the two people in the vehicle, one of them- later identified as Thomas- was armed with a screwdriver, approached the technician.
The other suspect fled in the car.
