National group says Utah fails at electing women to political office

Jun 16, 2017, 9:29 AM

A national group that wants to see an equal number of men and women in politics says Utah fails at electing women.

Representation 2020 ranks Utah 46th among the 50 states.

Utah has had one female governor in history, and none of our statewide elected officials right now is a woman, though we do have Representative Mia Love in congress, and 19 percent of Utah’s legislators are women.

They say studies show shows politicians are more effective when they have a better balance between genders.

Here is the group’s report on Utah: https://d3n8a8pro7vhmx.cloudfront.net/fairvote/pages/5256/attachments/original/1493842018/FinalUtahGPI.pdf?1493842018
