WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah — Fire crews responded to the Dalton Wash Fire in Washington County late Thursday night after a vehicle rollover sparked the fire. Officials estimate the fire is burning 600 acres and as of Friday morning is at 0% containment.

The fire is burning east of Virgin, a town in southern Utah, on State Route 9 at Dalton Wash Road.

Utah Fire Info’s website said the fire was discovered Thursday at 6:27 p.m.

Officials said it spread quickly due to high winds and the current dry conditions.

Hurricane Valley Fire and Rescue dispatched crews Thursday night to assist in managing the fire. The fire department said Utah fire officials and Bureau of Land Management officials were also on the scene.

Hurricane Valley Fire and Rescue also said an aircraft worked on the fire until sunset. Eight fire engines and wildland apparatuses, one water tender and one ambulance were also on scene.

Officials said they requested a Type 3 Incident Management team in order to manage the fire. Type 3 teams may use several resources or teams and may work into another 12-hour operational period. These teams are used for slightly complex fires.

A “tiny homes” site was evacuated Thursday night, according to officials.

Dalton Wash road remains closed to maintain firefighter and public safety.
