Burgess Owens, Republican for 4th District
Burgess Owens was born on August 2, 1951, in Columbus, Ohio. He later moved to Tallahassee, Florida where his father taught college.
Owens graduated with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry and biology from the University of Miami. After college, Ownes started his professional football career with the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted to play for the New York Jets as a defensive back. He transferred to the Oakland Raiders and retired from the NFL in 1983.
Once Owens’ football career ended, he dove into the non-profit business. Owens is the founder of Second Chance 4 Youth, a Utah based non-profit organization dedicated to helping troubled and incarcerated youths.
Republicans selected Owens to represent them on the ballot for the 4th congressional district at the primary election on June 30, 2020. He will be running against incumbent Ben McAdams.
