Flooding in Salt Lake City has had crews diverting water away from homes since early Wednesday morning. Parts of 1700 South remains closed.

Neighbors were placing rocks and construction boards along their property to try and channel the water to the middle of the road.

SLC Mayor Erin Mendenhall says changes have been made since the 1983 spring runoff that turned downtown State Street into a river.

While people prepare sandbags for the spring runoff expected in Utah, officials ask residents to be "conservation aware."
