Adam Small

...
Adam Small has been with KSL NewsRadio since September 2020. He started out anchoring weekend and nighttime newscasts before becoming a reporter for Utah’s Morning News in the fall of 2022. Since then, he has covered a wide array of stories, from floods to fires, major crimes, a presidential visit and even the earthly arrival of asteroid material roughly as old as our solar system.

Outside of breaking news, Adam serves as KSL NewsRadio’s Great Salt Lake reporter for The Great Salt Lake Collaborative. He also covers stories about Utah’s water, including Lake Powell and the Colorado River. He also covers other environmental and transit stories.

Before his time with KSL, Adam attended BYU-Idaho from 2016 to 2020, where he received his bachelor’s degree in communication, with an emphasis in news and journalism. That’s also where he said his first words behind a broadcast microphone. Adam worked at BYU-Idaho Radio as a producer, before anchoring the local news segments as part of NPR’s Morning Edition program. Adam also interned at BYU-Idaho Radio and hosted the Weekdays program, where he interviewed local community members about various events and issues at that time.

Adam is something of a pioneer himself. He was born and raised in Maine before he decided to set out west for the first time at age 18 to serve a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 2014. Having never been west of Michigan his entire life, Adam took one look outside the plane as it descended over Utah and thought, “Where are all the trees?” and “Why is it all dirt?” Go easy on him, he lived 18 years in a state that’s about 90% forest and filled with lush greenery. Adam served his mission in Los Angeles, California.

When he’s not in the newsroom, Adam is likely spending time with his wife and daughter, Olivia, or as they call her, “Ms. Baby.” The family loves taking trips to Antelope Island, visiting old friends in Rexburg, Idaho or wherever seems fun to explore.

Adam was a three-sport athlete in high school and still loves watching sports whenever he can. He’s easily the biggest fan of the Detroit Lions you’ll ever meet. Along with being an avid member of the pride, he also loves the Detroit Tigers, Redwings and Pistons. While he bleeds Lions blue on Sundays, he bleeds University of Utah red on Saturdays and tries to catch every Utes game he can.

Adam also loves staying active, whether that’s lifting weights, running, walking, swimming or playing sports. He also enjoys taking a break from life’s hecticness with either a great adventure on the PlayStation 5, or with a good movie or TV show.
