Airplane at Provo Airport catches fire, forcing facility closure

SALT LAKE CITY — A small airplane caught fire Monday afternoon at the Provo Airport, prompting officials to shut down the airport for safety reasons.
Janna-Lee Holland with the Provo Police Department said a non-commercial plane was coming in to land while reportedly on fire.
The report of the plane on fire came in just before 3:30 p.m. By 4:08 p.m., the fire had been extinguished by fire personnel stationed at the airport.

Holland reported there were some injuries among the four plane occupants, but no fatalities. All of them exited the plane. One individual was transported to Utah Valley Hospital by medics.
Footage from Chopper5 identified the flight number of the burning plane, allowing reporters to determine the flight was scheduled to fly to Van Nuys Airport in California. The flight turned around less than 10 minutes into their scheduled flight.
Flight Radar also reported an Allegiant flight traveling from Nashville was diverted to Salt Lake City from the Provo Airport after the airport closed.
