Evacuations lifted, US Hwy 89 and Hwy 6 reopened near two wildfires

Some evacuations have been lifted...

Reporters were allowed to tour areas affected by the Bald Mountain Fire on Wednesday. Thursday, some evacuations were lifted and a main highway reopened.

SPANISH FORK — Utah County Sheriff’s Spencer Cannon says US Highway 89 closure and evacuation has been lifted.

Cannon says people may return home but they remain under pre-evacuation status.

The weather is still not cooperating at two southern Utah County wildfires, but firefighters report progress against them: U.S. Highway 6 has reopened, and some evacuations have been lifted.

The highway through Spanish Fork Canyon had been closed for a couple of days.

And evacuees from Eagles Landing south to the Utah County line are allowed home. But officials tell them that, if the fire pattern changes, they must be ready to flee again.

Meantime, a drone flew over a southern section of the wildfires, hampering the aerial assault against them.

On Wednesday, relative humidity dropped to 3% and winds reached 30 miles per hour.

Still, the Bald Mountain Fire is 12% contained, and the Pole Creek Fire is 28% contained. They’ve burned 104,000 acres combined.

We want to hear from you.
