Another Winter Olympics won’t take Utah tax dollars

SALT LAKE CITY — Organizers of Salt Lake City’s efforts to host another Winter Olympics say tax dollars won’t be needed to foot the estimated $1.4 billion dollar budget.
“The investment is zero from state and local communities. Zero. In fact, they’re going to get money at the end of this,” said Fraser Bullock, Managing Director of Sorenson Capital and former COO of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee, to the Deseret News and KSL editorial boards.
The money would come from mostly selling sponsorships and TV rights, with the only tax dollars coming from the federal government for security.
It is expected that the USOC will decide between Salt Lake and Denver in a meeting on December 13-14, then IOC should name the host of the 2030 Winter Games next June.
