SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake School Board says it will not let immigration officials into schools without a warrant.
They say want to make sure students feel safe from deportation at school.
The board of education passed a resolution Tuesday night saying Salt Lake City’s schools will do everything in their lawful power to protect students and make sure schools are not disrupted by immigration enforcement.
The school district does not ask about the immigration status of students or their parents or guardians. But the board said they are hearing that some kids are living in fear and uncertainty.
It is important to note that the board also says to date they have not had any contact by federal immigration authorities. ICE also says public schools are places where enforcement should not occur anyway.
