ALTA, Utah — Authorities at Alta say a 37-year-old California man who was found unconscious and unresponsive at the resort on Thursday has died. A press release from Alta Town Marshal Mike Morey says crews with Unified Fire Authority made the discovery about 2:30 p.m. in the “Sunspot” area in deep snow near a tree.

According to the release, the Alta Ski Patrol continued lifesaving efforts before the victim was transported to the Alta medical clinic where he died a short time later.

Morey says they are investigating and in the process of notifying family members. He initially said they would not be releasing the man’s name. Authorities do not believe anyone else was involved and say so far it appears to be an accident.

The California man was the second confirmed death at a Utah area ski resort over the holiday week. Authorities have confirmed the identity of a Los Angeles man who died while skiing at Park City Mountain Resort Wednesday.

Charles “Charlie” Noxon, 20, died at the resort, according to a Thursday news release from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office. TMZ first reported Wednesday that the man who died was Noxon, son of TV producer Jenji Kohan and writer Christopher Noxon. Funeral services for Charlie Noxon will be held Sunday in Hollywood, according to the family’s statement.

Kohan is best known for creating the TV shows “Weeds” and “Orange is the New Black.” Christopher Noxon worked as a music consultant for “Weeds” and is the author of several books.
