GRANTSVILLE — The Grantsville police department has identified the four people killed in a shooting on Friday in a home at 93 South Eastmore.

A mother and her three children were the victims of this shooting. The mother was identified as Consuelo Alejandra Haynie. Also killed were 15-year-old Alexis Haynie, 14-year-old Mathew Haynie, and 12-year-old Milan Haynie.

Police say that on Friday, January 17, the suspect was arrested at a hospital where he and another shooting victim, the father, had been taken by another person.

The father, Colin Haynie, has since been released from the hospital.

The teenager was booked into jail on four charges of aggravated murder, one charge of attempted aggravated murder, and multiple charges of the felony discharge of a firearm.

The shooter is believed to be a member of the family, though Grantsville police have not formally identified the shooter.

A candlelight vigil held Monday night in Grantsville honored the four family members shot and killed on Friday.

Word of the shooting spread quickly through Grantsville, a town of about 10,000 people. Thousands shared their sympathies on social media and organized the candlelight vigil at the Grantsville City Park.

A community Facebook page has also started an online fundraising effort that names the family and at the time of writing it has raised over $65,000.*

Grantsville Mayor Brent Marshall confirmed the relationship between the shooter and victims and said it may take some time to piece everything together.

“It’s an unfortunate tragedy that has taken place here this evening,” said Marshall. “And I’m sure it will take days or even longer to try and piece together what brought all of this on and why it happened if we ever get to know why it happened. It’s upsetting. This is normally a very quiet neighborhood, and any time you have children involved in something, it becomes very emotional, very fast.

“We appreciate everybody’s thoughts and support. We ask that you continue to pray for the family and for these officers who are trying to figure out what happened.”

The teenage suspect faces aggravated homicide and other charges.
