COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS — Utah’s attorney general honored a Brighton High School cheerleader for saving a fellow student’s life recently.

Kennaday Kasteler was at a Junior Jazz basketball game when she noticed a teenager was having a seizure. He stopped breathing. 17-year-old Kennaday has first aid training from her job as a lifeguard, and she said it kicked in.

She started helping him right away.

“Checking if he was breathing, checking if he had a pulse,” Kennaday said. “He wasn’t breathing, he didn’t have a pulse so immediately we just jumped in with CPR until the EMS got there and took him away.”

Those chest compressions saved Michael Le Fleur’s life.

Attorney General Sean Reyes says Kennaday is a hero.

“I think a lot of people are critical of the youth of this generation, and I think Kennaday represents all that is great,” he said. “She saw a need, she jumped in, no one asked.”

Reyes went to the Brighton basketball game Tuesday night to honor her. He says Kennady has inspired him to learn CPR.
