Tabernacle Choir Duel of the Fates...

Duel of the Fates, from Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace as performed by the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square.

As Star Wars fans around the world celebrate May 4, the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square is getting in on the festivities as they released a new recording of Duel of the Fates.

The 360-voice Tabernacle Choir released a new recording of John Williams “Duel of the Fates” from “Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.”

The Choir said that Duel of the Fates was written for choir and orchestra and was heard during the final lightsaber battle in the film Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.

The lyrics of the song are based on the archaic Welsh poem, Cad Goddeu (Battle of the Trees), which John Williams had translated into Sanskrit, an ancient Indian language.

The track will be a part of the Choir and Orchestra’s EP recording entitled When You Believe: A Night at the Movies that will be released in full May 22 — including songs from “Avengers: Endgame,” “Frozen” and  “The Prince of Egypt.”

The choir was founded in Salt Lake City just 29 days after Mormon pioneers arrived in the Salt Lake Valley and is composed entirely of volunteers.

Recently the 173-year-old choir updated the design of their logo which now includes seven gold-colored organ pipes in a pattern that looks like a music movement. A curve in the pipes symbolizes the Tabernacle roof and the rest over a line that represents a firm foundation.
