Utah Primary results still too close to call; Burgess Owens wins 4th congressional district

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah– State officials are busy tabulating results for the Utah Primary Election. Since Tuesday, only one race has been called: Burgess Owens, who won the Republican nomination for Utah’s 4th Congressional District. He will face incumbent Democrat Ben McAdams in the fall.

Opponents of Owens, Kim Coleman and Jay McFarland have conceded the race.
So far, the primary races for Utah’s Republican governor nominee and Republican 1st congressional district all remain too close to call.
When votes started trickling in on Tuesday, Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox had a steady hand up against Jon Huntsman, Jr., the former governor who also served as ambassador to China and Russia. Currently, Cox has a slight lead on Huntsman Jr. of nearly three points.
Cox leads in most counties besides Salt Lake and Washington County, where Huntsman received more votes.
The results of the Republican primary for Attorney General are stagnant from Tuesday. Utah’s current Attorney General, Sean Reyes, continues to hold a nine point lead against his opponent, David Leavitt.
In Utah’s 1st congressional district, both the Democratic and Republican races are neck and neck. On the Democratic side, Darren Parry is five points ahead of Jamie Cheek, with only a few counties updating results. On the Republican side, Blake Moore holds a slight lead over Bob Stevenson, less than one percentage point.
