CLINTON, Utah — Roy Police say one man is dead and a K-9 officer is recovering from a gunshot wound to the face after an officer-involved shooting overnight in Clinton.

Officer Josh Taylor says this all began after a traffic stop around 2 a.m.

“The officers made contact with the occupants of the car, and after a brief discussion, the two males inside the vehicle fled in the vehicle. Roy officers pursued the vehicle briefly, then terminated the pursuit,” said Taylor in a press release.

Taylor says a short time later, they received notice that there was a car stopped in a large field near the area of 2640 North 1700 West in Clinton.  As officers approached, Taylor says that one of the suspects in the car started firing at an officer.  Officers returned fire, killing one of the suspects.
