wind warning...

SALT LAKE CITY — The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a wind advisory and high wind warning for portions of northern Utah, beginning at 6 p.m. Sunday and extending until noon Monday.

The wind advisory warns of the possibility of northeast winds of 15-25 mph with occasional gusts between 40-50 mph near the canyons along the east bench of the Salt Lake valley.

The high wind warning is in effect from 8 p.m. Sunday through noon on Monday, and covers the northern Wasatch Front from Salt Lake City to north Ogden. These winds are expected to blow between 20-30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph.

The NWS reported stronger wind gusts of up to 60 mph are possible around Centerville to Farminton in Davis County. These high winds could damage property, cause power outages and impact traffic especially for those who drive high-profile vehicles.

Additionally, the Utah Department of Transportation is warning of the possibility of blowing snow and black ice for the bench areas of Hwy. 89, as well as Park City, Heber City, Eden, and Morgan, which Utah Department of Transportation referred to as the Wasatch Back.

KSL meteorologists predict overnight temperatures to fall into the teens Sunday night, and the wind chill could make it feel like below zero temperatures on Monday morning.

The NWS advises Utahns to batten down the hatches Sunday night, and secure outdoor furniture as well as play equipment like trampolines, to prevent the possibility of harm or property destruction.

A high wind warning goes into effect in Washington County at 6 p.m. Sunday and extends through 4 p.m. on Monday.
