FARMINGTON, Utah — A high school drum line, cheerleaders and student body officers greeted new Davis School District teachers walking up the sidewalk into Farmington High School early Tuesday morning.

The new elementary teachers arrived at the high school for a day of training, workshops and orientation from the Davis School District.

Cheers, drum line welcome new Davis teachers

“Nothing is better than live music at 7 in the morning!” said Allison Riddle, who is the district elementary mentor supervisor. “It’s our fun way of welcoming all our new licensed educators.”

The day helps new licensed educators acclimate to the school district, learn about content, digital resources, and everything else they need before classes start on August 23.

They also met other new teachers in their own schools.

“For many of our new teachers and counselors and special educators, speech therapists, all of them, for some of them this is the beginning of their career,” said Riddle. “We want them to feel appreciated. No matter what’s going on in the world, they need to know the work they do with kids will have an impact for years to come. We can first do that by letting them know how important they are to us.”

Elementary Tuesday, secondary teachers Wednesday

Wednesday is the day of training and orientation for new secondary teachers.

“This year is a different year. We still have a pandemic to navigate as teachers and educational leaders,” said Riddle.

But she said the district is prepared.

“We have a great relationship with our county health department. Our schools are safe, and clean, and following protocol.”
