SALT LAKE CITY — Saturday marked the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks on the United States.
Terrorists hijacked four commercial airliners. Two crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City, a third crashed into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. The fourth plane crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
In all, 2,977 people lost their lives on that tragic day, including 2,606 at the World Trade Center. Another 6,000 people were injured in the attacks.
On Saturday, some of Utah’s leaders went to social media to share their thoughts on the anniversary of the attacks. Here is what they had to say.
Following the 9/11 attacks, thousands spontaneously volunteered to help support rescue and recovery efforts.
We’re joining millions of Americans in recapturing that spirit of unity through service.

Twenty years ago today, America changed forever.
We must remember why we are now so vigilant so that we aren’t reminded by another tragedy. We must remember the horrors and sadness of that day because it is part of who we are.

Out of respect to those we lost on September 11 and those we’ve lost just weeks ago to terrorists’ intent on our destruction, let’s put down…
