Salt Lake City, UT — The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating an aggravated assault that occurred Friday near the East High School football stadium.

According to police, a 17-year-old East High School witnessed two people arguing. The fight was labeled as a domestic disturbance between a female and an 18-year-old male.

The witness decided to physically intervene in the initial fight, which resulted in him also getting on a fight with the 18-year-old male. That’s when the 18-year-old male pulled out a firearm and stroke him over the head, no shots were fired.

The 17-year-old witness declined medical assistance, the suspect left the area before officers arrived.

The SLCPD School Resource Officers have identified the 18-year-old suspect and are conducting investigative follow-up to locate him. No arrests have been made.

Additional officers were available for student safety at the homecoming dance on Saturday.

SLCPD School Resource Officers ask that anyone with information about this incident contact 801-799-3000 and reference case number 21-170870.

We want to hear from you.
