MOAB, Utah — Police Chief Bret Edge has taken a leave of absence from his post at the head of the Moab Police Department.
Moab Mayor Emily Niehaus said that the chief is out on family medical leave and that his return date is unknown.
Moab chief leave comes amid high-profile investigations
The Moab City Council recently announced they would be opening an investigation into the police handling of their interaction with Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie after calls about a potential domestic violence situation were made in August. The city would not comment or speculate on possible links between that case, or the investigation into the double-homicide of a married couple in the La Sal mountains in August.
