Wind and rain impacting the Monday evening commute

SALT LAKE CITY — Wind and rain have been keeping drivers on their toes for the last hour or so, and the bad weather isn’t expected to stop for a while. Here’s one example of what the commute is looking like right now.

The National Weather Service reported wind gusts of up to 61 mph on Monday afternoon as the storm rolled in.

Earlier on Monday afternoon, weather officials warned of the potential for those strong wind gusts:

KSL Newsradio has heard from texters who’ve said that wind has downed some trees in south Provo near the cemetery.
A previous tweet from the National Weather Service warned of 55 mph wind along I-80 in the west desert.
Gusts to 55 mph will be possible along I-80 in the west desert and along the south end of the Great Salt Lake as the leading edge of showers from the incoming winter storm moves to the north. #utwx https://t.co/R0DqyQLuLx

And it’s rain now, but snow is expected to impact Utah roadways over the next 24 hours.
