SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Highway Patrol troopers will begin aggressive and targeted enforcement to reduce high speeds and dangerous driving.
As an example of what they are dealing with, on Monday, Dec. 20, UHP tweeted a citation for a driver in Salt Lake City who was cited for driving 100 mph in a 55 mph zone. The troopers described the driving as “dangerous” and “unacceptable.”
A good reminder to slow down and be present in your driving. These kinds of speeds in a construction zone are way to dangerous and unacceptable. pic.twitter.com/xr6ZmLl6aY

“Speeds like that are definitely 100% controllable and 100% inappropriate and not acceptable out there on the freeways,” UHP Sgt. Cameron Roden told KSL NewsRadio. The citation was issued for speeding in a construction zone.
It puts the driver at risk … it puts construction workers at risk … and it puts the public at risk.”
Driving at high speeds, and the crashes that can come from speeding, are both preventable Sgt. Roden said. They don’t need to ruin the holidays.
UHP citations for high speeds
High speed citations are issued when a driver has exceeded 100 mph. The UHP handed out around 3,000 of these citations in 2018 and 2019. In 2020, they handed out 5,100.
This past year has not seen as many citations as 2020. However, the UHP noted Utahn’s speeds are still far higher than in the years before the pandemic. And the response by Utah Highway Patrol troopers will be aggressive, tweeted Colonel Michael Rapich.
Our troopers are putting aggressive and targeted enforcement efforts on extreme speed / bad driving behavior. Please help them keep all of us safe this Holiday Season. Drive Safe and Watch the Speed! https://t.co/Dy767UeumW
