SALT LAKE CITY — Gov. Spencer Cox announced Thursday a state-wide donation drive of cash and supplies to help the Ukraine refugees.

The donation drive is in connection with Gail Miller and the Larry H. Miller Group. There will be several drop-off locations for donations throughout the Wasatch Front. It will run from March 4-14.

“My most sincerest thanks goes to Gail Miller and the Larry H. Miller Group for organizing this driven-to-assist community donation drive,” Gov. Cox said during a press conference Thursday. “… And for generously donating to the cause.”

Donation drive to collect funds and supplies

Gov. Cox says The Community Foundation of Utah will collect funds and distribute to international aid agencies near Ukraine. The Governor also says the organization Sister Goods will provide feminine hygiene products, while Intermountain Healthcare will coordinate   delivery.

First Lady Abby Cox’s initiative Show Up will coordinate volunteer efforts to sort and pack items.

“This is our time to show up for our friends in Ukraine,” the First Lady said. “We do need volunteers.

The First Lady has asked any individuals wishing to volunteer to visit www.showuputah.org/ukraine

Additionally, Gov. Cox says cash donations will be matched up to $2 million.

“That’s an incredible demonstration of solidarity with the people of Ukraine in their time of need,” Gov. Cox said.

A total of $2 million has already been raised

Miller said Utah community partners and philanthropists have already raised $2 million that have been donated to The Community Foundation of Utah.

Miller says she got the idea for the drive from one of her friends, who was seeking ways to help his home country.

“I believe that when we serve others,” Miller said. “Our love for them increases.”

Miller would like to see the rest of the state give involved in the drive.

“We would like to encourage our fellow Utahns to help match this $2 million that has already been raised. Any donation would be appreciated, from a dollar on up.”

Miller says additional information can be found at www.LHM.com.

Here are the donation sites:

  • Megaplex at Jordan Commons, 9295 S. State, Sandy.
  • Megaplex at Thanksgiving Point, 2935 N. Thanksgiving Way, Lehi.
  • Megaplex at Legacy Crossing, 1075 West Legacy Crossing Blvd., Centerville.
  • Smith’s Ballpark, 77 W. 1300 South, Salt Lake City (front lobby, east of home plate gates).
