SALT LAKE CITY — Google released its Economic Impact report for Utah on Wednesday. The report said the company generated $9.67 billion in economic activity for the state in 2021.

Google said it helped provide “economic activity for tens of thousands of Utah businesses, nonprofits, publishers, creators and developers.”

The company also noted that its Ad Grants Program provided $5.61 million of free advertising to Utah nonprofits in 2021.

The report looks at the company’s national and local impact in all 50 states, as well as Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico.

Google and Utah

Over 192,000 businesses in Utah used Google in order to receive bookings, phone calls, reviews, and other connections with their customers in 2021, according to the company.

In a press release, the company highlighted a local business, The Baby Cubby, because of the way it used digital tools to reach customers.

The Baby Cubby sells baby products. The founders used Google Ads to reach parents and Google Analytics to track their marketing campaigns. They also have over 500 YouTube videos ranging from product reviews to how-to guides.

“Google has played a large part in our marketing from the start, helping parents discover our brand and helping our business grow,” said Cameron Muir, founder and CEO of The Baby Cubby.

One of the company’s programs, Grow with Google, has helped over 117,000 Utahns learn digital skills. The company partnered with over 65 organizations like public libraries and community colleges to teach those skills.

Google has physical ties to Utah too.

Google Fiber has offices in Provo and Salt Lake City. In 2020 the company announced an expansion into Millcreek.
