SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Girls Tackle Football League will hold its championship games at Rice Eccles Stadium. It will be the first time in the U.S. a girls tackle football championship has played in a collegiate stadium.

There will be four games at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m., and 5 p.m. The first two are junior high games and the final two are high school games.

The Utah Girls Tackle Football league began in 2015 with 50 girls. In 2022, the league has jumped to 600 girls playing tackle football.

Shawn Goetz, president of the Utah Girls Tackle Football League, said the Utah Girls Tackle Football League will continue to grow as more girls become familiar with opportunities in the sport. He said this weekend’s championship games are just the next step in the league’s journey.
