One person killed after multi-car crash in Sandy, State Street closed in the area

SANDY, Utah — One person died and two others were seriously injured after a crash involving nine vehicles on State Street in Sandy.
Update: Multi vehicle collision 10590 S State has resulted in 1 fatality and several injured, 9 vehicles involved. Speed was a factor in the collision. N/B & S/B lanes on State St to remain closed for several hours.

Police said that a white Toyota 4Runner was speeding northbound on State Street when the driver ran a red light and entered the intersection at 10600 South.
The Toyota then collided with a westbound grey Ford F150. Together, the two vehicles collided with seven vehicles that were stopped for the light on southbound State Street.

Both directions of State Street are closed to traffic between 106th and 104th South, and will be for several hours.
Sandy Police are on scene of a multi-car traffic collision with injuries at 10590 South State St. North/South traffic will be shut down for several hours, avoid the area. PIO will be on scene west side of street.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area until further notice.
