SALT LAKE CITY — Former Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson told KSL NewsRadio Thursday night that he will be running for mayor in 2023.
“I really haven’t made a public announcement,” Anderson said. “But I did meet with some people last night, many of whom have been urging me to run. And I wanted to let them that know I have decided I am going to make a public announcement. I will file the paperwork.”
Anderson says he decided four days ago that he would run again.
“It’s been building up a long time,” he said. “Initially, I was absolutely opposed to doing it. It’s not what I had in mind for myself. But I decided that this city is at its absolute worst. It’s unsafe, it’s filthy, we’re not dealing with the homeless in a humane way.”
Previously, Anderson served as Salt Lake City mayor from 2000 to 2008.
