CENTERVILLE, Utah — A 16-year-old girl was walking to school when she was hit by a car and thrown around 50-60 feet, said police.
Paul Childs, Centerville’s Police chief, said the teen sustained significant injuries after the accident that happened at 2025 N. Main Street.
Childs said the teen was well-established in a marked school crosswalk when a southbound Toyota Highlander hit her, causing injuries to her brain and body. The driver, an 82-year-old woman, stopped at the scene and cooperated with police.
Childs said there are not a lot of accidents in that area, but that drivers should be aware of their surroundings.
The Utah Highway Patrol is assisting with the investigation, said Childs.
