SANDY, Utah — When Real Salt Lake opens next season at America First Field, it will do so on a new playing field.
Real Salt Lake announced Wednesday that the playing field has been completely replaced with new sod.
But that’s not the only change being made to the stadium. According to a news release from the team, new safe-standing seats are being installed in the Supporter Section in the south end of the stadium.
Last month, more than 100 seats were removed from sections 9, 10, 11 to allow for the addition of the safe-standing seats. The standing seats have protective barriers to prevent anyone from falling.
In the process of replacing the old sod with the new, ground crews tore up 105,000 square feet of grass and sand. The news release says the sand was in need of replacing to allow for better drainage from the pitch.
“As a Club, we want to provide the best experiences possible for our players and our fans,” said RSL President John Kimball in a news release. “Whether it’s making upgrades to our seating or revamping the playing field, our fans and players deserve the absolute best. We’re thrilled we can make these changes for the 2023 season, and we can’t wait for the fans to come back to America First Field.”
