SALT LAKE CITY — If you’re heading into the great outdoors, think twice about what you’re taking with you. A new rule banning certain e-bikes from wildlife and waterfowl management areas recently took effect.

According to the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, the Utah Wildlife Board passed a rule this summer banning two classes of e-bikes from wildlife management areas.

The new rule classifies Class 2 and Class 3 electronic bikes as motorized vehicles. Those two classes of e-bikes can self-propel.

The DWR said wildlife and waterfowl management areas with restrictions have signs advising visitors about the rule. The state only allows motorized vehicles in management areas on designated roads.

The DWR said the restrictions exist to protect the state’s wildlife and its habitats.
