SALT LAKE CITY — The National Weather Service for SLC is warning Utah residents of an upcoming storm. And therefore, the Utah Avalanche Center is reminding those in the backcountry to be aware.
More specifically, the avalanche center is asking you to think about stepping back from the backcountry as the storm passes.
“Avalanche danger will be on the rise with the incoming storm, think about shifting the mindset to stepping back over the next few days,” they said on Facebook.
All upper-elevation terrain is at a moderate risk for shallow slabs of wind-drifted snow.
On their Facebook page, they said to be on the lookout for pockets of reactive wind-drifted snow, especially in steep, consequential terrain.
In this type of terrain, even a small avalanche can have a detrimental outcome.
