Church announces groundbreaking date for Montpelier Idaho Temple

SALT LAKE CITY — The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Monday the groundbreaking date for the Montpelier Idaho Temple. Church leaders also announced the site of the Maceió Brazil Temple.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the Idaho temple will be held June 17, 2023. Elder Ryan K. Olsen, General Authority Seventy, will preside at the event. Further information will be provided as the groundbreaking date draws closer.
Attendance at the groundbreaking ceremony is by invitation only. A live broadcast of the event will be made available for more than 15,000 church members who reside in the temple district.
The Montpelier Idaho Temple was first announced in April 2022 by President Russell M. Nelson. It will be built on 2.6-acres of land on the northeast corner of Washington and Sixth Street in Montpelier, according to a church news release.
Maceió Brazil Temple Site
This temple will be constructed at Avenida — Dr. Durval de Góis Monteiro, S/N, Quadra 0522, Lote 0228.
According to the news release, this temple will be one-story structure of roughly 19,000 square feet. President Nelson also announced this temple in April 2022.
Bonneville International Corporation, the company that owns KSL NewsRadio, is a subsidiary of Deseret Management Corporation, which is owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
