Avalanche closes US-189 in Provo Canyon

PROVO CANYON — An avalanche up Provo Canyon Friday afternoon has closed US-189 near Bridal Veil Falls.
According to the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office, the highway is closed at milepost 12. Snow is covering all lanes of travel. The Sheriff’s Office says the snow is roughly 30 feet deep.
The Utah Department of Transportation says the highway will be closed for at least 24 hours in order for crews to clear the snow. Motorists are asked to make alternative plans.
Driver Alert: US-189 is closed due to an avalanche across the road at MP 11 to MP 13. Current estimates are 24+ hours for clean up. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes during this closure. @UtahDOT @UtahTrucking @UDOTavy @UDOTRegionthree

The Utah Highway Patrol says the avalanche covered the road during mitigation operations Friday afternoon.
