UTAH COUNTY, Utah — An auto-pedestrian accident occurred yesterday, April 28, on Chimney Rock Pass Road, killing a 59-year-old Santaquin man.
The location of the accident is around 3.5 miles west of Redwood Road and 7 miles north of Elberta.
Around 5:10 p.m. yesterday, deputies with the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, UCSO, received a report of a Toyota Tacoma pickup hitting a man standing near his vehicle.
The UCSO said in a release witnesses tried to get the attention of the reckless driver, who reached speeds up to 70 mph on the narrow dirt road.
However, the suspect swerved to avoid the victim’s pickup and hit him, throwing the victim nearly 40 feet in the air.
The victim sustained serious trauma to his head and body.
When medical personnel arrived on the scene, the man was deceased.
The suspect fled, and 30 minutes after the accident the driver called dispatch and gave his location.
Deputies then safely took the man into custody. Charges have not been determined.
