EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah — An Eagle Mountain man was charged with two counts of manslaughter Tuesday following a fatal road rage incident that claimed the lives of two people last week. The two victims were uninvolved in the road rage that lead up to the crash.
Along with manslaughter charges, suspect Peterson Drew Matheson, age 30, is also accused of reckless driving, following another vehicle and failure to stay in one lane.
Sgt. Spencer Cannon with the Utah County Sheriff’s Office said Matheson was involved in a road rage incident on June 4 that began at City Center near the rodeo grounds in Eagle Mountain.
Cannon said Matheson and the other vehicle continued their road rage for several miles, up Eagle Mountain Boulevard and onto Highway 73.
Matheson was driving a 2016 Ford F-150 pickup truck when the other driver slammed on his brakes and Matheson lost control and went across the center line, crashing head-on with a 1987 Porsche 911.
The occupants of the Porsche 911, later identified as Rodney Michal Salm, 48, and Michaela Himmelberger, 47., died in the crash.
