Utah Republican Party announces debate schedule for 2nd Congressional District seat

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Republican Party has announced details about its upcoming two debates as part of the special election to fill the 2nd Congressional District seat, which is being vacated by Rep. Chris Stewart.

The debates are sponsored by the Utah Elephant Club, and are scheduled as follows:

  • Northern Utah Convention Debate 1
    • When: Tuesday, June 20
    • Where: Woods Cross High Auditorium (600 W. 2200 South, Woods Cross)
    • Time: 6 to 8:45 p.m.
  • Southern Utah Convention Debate 2
    • When: Thursday, June 22
    • Where: Dixie Tech Auditorium (610 S. Tech Ridge Drive, St. George)
    • Time: 6 to 8:45 p.m.

In a news release, the Utah Republican Party says the purpose of these debates is to give the candidates the opportunity to present their views on issues, present policy proposals “and demonstrate readiness to
represent constituents in Congressional District 2.”

Utah Republican Chairman Rob Axson will serve as moderator of the debates, with participation from the public and the media.

The format will include an opening statement, questions on various topics and closing statements.
