SALT LAKE CITY — Police have arrested a man for allegedly stealing $10,000 worth of Legos from Target stores in Salt Lake and Utah County. Police said Devon Engard would walk into Salt Lake and Utah County Target stores, grab a handful of Lego kits, and be out in his getaway car in just two minutes.
Taylorsville Police Detective, Braydon Hamatake, said Engard would list these Legos for what looked like a bargain online.
“Most of these are probably about $180, and he was selling them for $60,” he said.
Det. Hamatake was able to crack the case of the Lego Caper! A man in his 30s and homeless was stealing Legos from Target stores in Taylorsville and Cottonwood Heights. The thefts occurred between March and May, and the loss was more than $10,000. 1/2 pic.twitter.com/UOBXM2SWCt

Hamatake told KSL that he found Engard’s listings and decided to meet up with him, pretending to be an interested buyer.
“I told him I was interested in the Legos,” he said. “He said, ‘OK I’ll give you this price,’ and he says ‘I’ve got a couple more sets as well if you would like.’ I told him ‘bring them with you and I’ll take a look.'”
When they met up, the police arrived at his location and arrested him.
“When he saw cops converge on him, he was a little bit surprised,” Hamatake said.
Police are still looking for his getaway drivers.
