SALT LAKE CITY — Summer weather is arriving late in Utah this year, says KSL meteorologist Matt Johnson. Temperatures will be in the 90s for the rest of the week, and Monday is looking like it will bring the first hundred degree day of 2023, Johnson said.
Most summers see an earlier buildup in temperatures, but June weather has hovered in the seventies and eighties. Johnson said storm systems are keeping away the hot days. Friday is the last 80-degree day for at least the next week, he said.
Be mindful as summer weather arrives
He warns that while the arrival of summer weather is good news for slip and slides and backyard barbecues, we haven’t had the usual gradual warmup seen in other years.
“A lot of folks are kind of scoffing at it, right, ‘oh we’ve seen a lot hotter than this, this time of year we can get way hotter,’ which is true,” he said. “But we’re not acclimated to this type of heat just yet,” Johnson said. “Typically by this time of year, we’ve already seen something this hot, but this is our first stretch of hot weather, so just be mindful of it,” he advises.
