SALT LAKE CITY — Almost a week later than usual, Salt Lake City had its first day of triple-digit temperatures for 2023.
The National Weather Service made the announcement Monday afternoon in a Tweet.
We just reached 100 degrees for the first time this year, but a cooldown tomorrow will likely keep us below 100 for the remainder of the week. #utwx https://t.co/1UlqrpNwmP

The forecasted high was initially 99 degrees, but National Weather Service Meteorologist Alex DeSmet told KSL NewsRadio the range is really 97 to 100 degrees.
DeSmet said there was only about a 20% chance the dial will hit 100 degrees on Monday due to cloud cover, rain and heavy wind.
“We are expecting some cloud cover to develop and we’re expecting a few showers and thunderstorms,” DeSmet said. “That could temper the southerly flow boost.”
The typical first 100-degree day in Salt Lake City is June 24. Last June there were three triple-digit days. In June 2021, Utah saw seven triple-digit days.
The drought and limited snowpack contributed to very hot summers in the last two years. In 2022, Salt Lake City had 34 100-degree days, the most in recorded history.
