SALT LAKE CITY — The University of Utah Health Plans discovered a security incident involving one of their vendors, the data breach potentially impacts the sensitive information of many of their patients and members.
In June, UUHP discovered the incident involving TMG Health, Inc., one of their vendors.
According to a statement by the University of Utah Health, an unauthorized external user accessed a MOVEit file transfer server and downloaded files that potentially contained some UUHP member information. The downloads happened between May 30, 2023, and June 2, 2023. TMG blocked the access of the unauthorized user once they learned of the breach.
The information gathered in the breach includes UUHP members’ names and one or more of the following: mailing address, email address, phone number, date of birth, Social Security Number, medical claims information, banking information, billing information, and/or medical treatment information.
Letters were sent on Aug. 10 to the potential victims. UUHP recommends to those affected to check their accounts for any potential discrepancies and report them to local enforcement.
The University of Utah Health Plans is also offering one year of complimentary personal identity and privacy protection monitoring to those affected by the data breach. They are also working closely with TMG to prevent similar incidents in the future.
