SALT LAKE CITY — West Valley City police say they have made an arrest in connection to a fatal shooting earlier this month.

Police say Esteban Galvez was wanted in connection to the alleged shooting of 21-year-old Brian Torres Hernandez on Sept. 15.

According to a post on X, officers located Galvez and conducted a traffic stop Tuesday night. He was taken into custody without incident.

On Sept. 15, West Valley City police were called to the area of 2821 W. 2730 South around 4:30 p.m. for a report of shots fired. Once on scene, officers discovered the victim lying on the driveway between two vehicles.

According to the probable cause statement, a total of 13 shell casings were found around the victim. Witnesses at the scene told authorities, they saw the suspect run across the street and allegedly start to shoot at the victim.

Prior to the shooting, the suspect allegedly pointed a weapon at a female, who he had previously had a romantic relationship with, according to the probable cause statement. The statement also adds that no shots were fired at the female.

Following the incident, the suspect fled the scene in an orange Hyundai Accent at a high rate of speed. The probable cause statement also says the weapon used in the incident has not been located.

According to the probable cause statement, Galvez has been booked into the Salt Lake County Jail. He has been booked for investigation of one-count of murder; six counts of felony discharge of a weapon; aggravated assault and obstruction of justice.

The probable cause further states that Galvez had an active warrant for a domestic violence charge.

Law enforcement personnel are asking that Galvez be held without bail.
