SALT LAKE CITY — One person was killed in a roll-over car crash following a police pursuit Sunday morning.
The Salt Lake City Police Department said they received information about a shooting near 900 S. State St. around 12:16 a.m. As officers arrived on the scene, they saw a car leaving fast.
“Based on the preliminary information available at this time,” a press release stated. “Officers had information to believe the people inside the car may have been involved in the shooting that had just occurred.”
Officers attempted to stop the car but said the driver refused to pull over. They pursued the car until it crashed at 1100 E. 900 S. Police said they believe the driver crashed after they couldn’t navigate the roundabout and rolled over.
One occupant in the car was killed in the crash. Paramedics took the other occupant, as well as the shooting victim, to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Salt Lake City Police Department said they have invoked the Officer-Involved-Critical-Incident and are looking for more information on the incident. They said the three officers involved will be placed on administrative leave, as per OICI procedure.
