BIG COTTONWOOD CANYON, Utah — Skiers at Solitude Mountain Resort and Brighton Resort will have to use parking reservation systems this ski and snowboard season.
Solitude announced Thursday that it is implementing paid parking reservations from Friday to Sunday and during holidays for the 2023-2024 season.
According to a press release, the resort wants to decrease canyon traffic and increase carpooling. The reservation system is also meant to alleviate “early morning parking anxiety” by allowing guests to secure a parking spot in advance, according to the release.
Parking reservations will be required Friday through Sunday and holidays beginning Dec. 15, 2023, through April 14, 2024.
Holiday periods are Dec. 25 through December 28, 2023, January 1, 2024, January 15, 2024, and Feb. 19 through February 22, 2024.
How will these parking reservation systems work?
At Solitude, it will work like this:
- beginning Dec. 15, a parking reservation will be required until 11:00 a.m;
- it will cost $35 to reserve a spot, but, parking will be free for cars with four or more people;
- between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., parking will be first come first served, but parking spots will still be $35 or free with four or more people;
- after 1:00 p.m. parking will be free and no reservations will be required.
On weekdays (Monday through Thursday), parking will be first come first served. It will cost $20 for cars with fewer than four people.
Parking for vehicles with more than four people is always free and parking after 1:00 p.m. is always free. According to the release, previous seasons had free parking only after 2:00 p.m.
Solitude also has season parking passes. A full-season parking pass costs $399 and a midweek parking pass costs $99. Season parking passes can be registered to two cars.
However, according to the Solitude Mountain website, those with either parking pass will still be required to make reservations to ski at the above times.
Brighton is implementing reserved parking too
Brighton Resort is also implementing parking changes to alleviate traffic this season.
According to Brighton’s website, parking reservations will be required starting on opening day in November through closing day in April.
All vehicles must make reservations between 7:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Reservations aren’t required after 1:00 p.m., after which parking will be free for everyone.
According to the Brighton Resort website, it will cost $20 to reserve a spot. But, parking will be free for season pass holders and cars with three or more people.
