Suspect in custody after vandalizing Gov. Cox campaign headquarters

SALT LAKE CITY — On Monday, Governor Cox’s reelection campaign headquarters was found vandalized, with windows shattered and the front door smashed.
According to the governor’s personal X account, the suspect is now in custody of the Salt Lake Police Department.

Salt Lake Police told KSL NewsRadio a UHP Trooper detained the suspect on the scene. Police determined the man was having a mental health crisis when he used a rock to shatter the glass.
The suspect was involuntarily committed for a psychiatric evaluation. The Salt Lake District Attorney’s office will screen for potential charges after the evaluation.
