AMERICAN FORK, Utah — The American Fork Police Department is investigating a suspicious item near the area of Greenwood Elementary.
According to Kimberly Bird with the Alpine School District, Greenwood Elementary received notice from the AFPD at around 3:30 p.m. saying it was investigating a suspicious item near the east side of the school. The item was found in a nearby riverbed, according to Lt. Stuart Fore with the AFPD.
Out of an abundance of caution, the school rerouted students to exit the school to the west instead of the east. Students are safe and on their way home, Bird said. There are no students currently at the school, according to Bird.
Additionally, she said, there is no reason to believe that anyone is in any immediate danger.
Police are currently investigating.
