Single-vehicle rollover crash results in DUI arrest and serious injuries

SANTA CLARA, Utah — A single-vehicle rollover crash in Santa Clara led to the arrest of Salvador Mejia Jr. for driving under the influence.
Deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Officers from the Santa Clara Ivins Police Department responded to the scene late Friday evening, According to law enforcement, the vehicle was found well off the highway with severe damage and the two occupants sustaining major injuries.
Salvador Mejia Jr., the driver, admitted to drinking alcohol before the accident and consented to a blood draw. Open alcoholic beverage containers were also found at the scene, leading authorities to charge Mejia with Negligently Operating a Vehicle Resulting in Serious Physical Injury, Alcohol Open Container, and Driving on a Suspended Driver’s License.
According to a probable cause statement, The passenger, an adult female, suffered a broken arm in the accident and complained of left shoulder and lower back pain. Both Mejia and the passenger exhibited an odor of alcohol, supporting the deputies’ belief that Mejia was intoxicated while driving.
Mejia faces multiple charges, including charges for the injuries sustained by his passenger.
