Police investigating potential hate crime at Bonneville Elementary

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating a potential hate crime at Bonneville Elementary.
According to a press release, the investigation began at approximately 11:22 a.m. Sunday. Police received reports of hate speech sprayed on Bonneville Elementary property. The school is located at 1145 South 1900 East.

Police say this was done with red and purple paint and white chalk. The vandalism includes homophobic and antisemitic speech, along with hate speech directed at people living with physical disabilities.
Police plan to review surveillance footage from the school as part of their investigation. They ask community members in the area to check their home security systems for any suspicious activity. SLCPD believes the incident occurred between Friday afternoon and Sunday morning.
